LYCEUM AND STUDENT SERVICES PRESENT THE TENNESSEE FIDDLE ORCHESTRA

Concert Free and Open to the Public

Columbia State Community College's Lyceum Committee and Student Services Office will present The Tennessee Fiddle Orchestra in concert at the Cherry Theater on Monday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. The orchestra plays traditional fiddle music in the Irish or Scottish tradition, folk songs, bluegrass and Western Swing.

"This performance promises to be entertaining for audience members of all ages," said Emily Gaskill, Assistant Professor of Music at Columbia State Community College. "The goal of the group is to provide an avenue for performers of all levels to get together, rehearse, and perform concerts throughout the year."

Jim Woods, a music veteran with many years of experience in arranging and producing independent records, and Inge Woods, formed the Tennessee Fiddle Orchestra out of a desire to offer new opportunities for area musicians.

Jim orchestrates the selections performed by the group. His arrangements are designed to accommodate the skill level of the performers at hand.

The group uses the same instrumentation as a classical chamber orchestra-strings, woodwinds, and brass-but also employs more non-traditional orchestral instruments such as mandolins, guitars and saxophones. Musicians in the orchestra come from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels.

The Cherry Theater is located in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus. This event is free and open to the public.
